Gautrain’s Midrand station nearly complete
The Gautrain Rapid Rail link is a sophisticated, modern, world class rail network with phase 1 up and running and phase 2 nearing completion. Midrand station will be complete with phase 2. It is built up with two major links namely that between Tshwane (Pretoria) and Johannesburg and another link between OR Tambo International Airport and Sandton. Besides these three anchor stations there are several other stations that will be linked by approximately 80 kilometers of rail.
Gautrain’s Midrand station is a ground level station between Marlboro and Centurion station. From Marlboro Station, the Gautrain heads north running to the east of Buccleauch until it reaches Midrand Station, it will then tracks the Old Pretoria-Johannesburg road north.
Upon its opening in 2011, it will be serviced by the North-South line system.Trains heading northbound to Pretoria and Hatfield and southbound to Sandton and Johannesburg Park Station. The station is situated South of Grand Central Airport and adjacent to the Old Pretoria-Johannesburg Road (K101). It is expected to have four integrated feeder bus routes to Vorna Valley (MID1), Randjespark (MID2), Noordwyk (MID3), and Kyalami Estates (MID4). The major areas that will be served include the Midrand CBD, Gallagher Estates, Vorna Valley, Halfway Gardens, Carlswald, Crowthorne, Kyalami Estates, Kyalami Business Park and Noordwyk
The Midrand Gautrain will lend prominence to the area and further fuel the development boom around the area and lends impetus to technology advancement. Starting with Zonk’izizwe a prominent initiative planned for development along the eastern side of the Midrand railway line. Consisting of a town centre, commercial and residential precincts surrounding Grand Central Airport. With Waterfall estate development along the N1 between Allendale Road and the N3. This will include standard residential and commercial districts, a retirement centre, a University, a hospital, cemetery, Islamic centre and industrial zones
